Hey Friends!
I know I am not the only one who is ready for fall. The cool breeze. The movies. The TV shows (Gilmore Girls + Pretty Little Liars, am I right?!) The scents. The tastes. The holidays. I could go on and on. Fall is by far my favorite season. (I’m a September baby so that could have something to do with it). I also love hosting and with the holidays comes a lot of get togethers. Halloween Parties. Thanksgiving. Friendsgivings. Christmas Eve. Christmas Day. You name it.
When I’m hosting and know I need to feed a ton of people I love to pull out one of my wooden boards to make it fun. There is something about serving food as a smorgas board that just makes it look ten times more appetizing. And fun for kids. Okay… and adults.
For my first blog post I saw it fitting to combine two of my favorite F words: Fall and Food Boards.
What you will need:
- Mini Pies (I bought the premade Walmart pies but if you want to really impress a crowd, do homemade!)
- Whipped Topping
- Red Grapes
- Apples
- Pecans
When making boards, I like to start with the main attraction or largest item (depending) and make a plan from there. So… since this is a Pie Board, naturally I placed my pies first. You can see I zig zagged the different flavors across the board to give it symmetry. Personally, I never want to place too many of one thing on just one area of the board because I feel like it throws the balance off. After the pies, my next large item was the whipped topping. I knew this was going to have to go in a large bowl so I placed it next to ensure I left enough space for it. I have no reasoning for why I placed the bowl where I did, it just felt right in my heart. (And that is normally how I design most of my boards. If you feel intimidated by making charcuterie/food boards, I promise you are more than likely just overthinking it). Now that I had my large items out of the way, I just needed to place my grazing/filler items. I placed my grapes across the board from each other… again, for balance. I placed the sliced apples beside the apple pies and the pecans beside the pecan pies. That just made the most sense to me and again, that’s what my heart was telling me to do. That’s it. You’re done. We did it!
My family loved this and due to it being July… we have a whole lot of pies to eat over the next week or so. Win/win. I plan to make this again for our Thanksgiving get togethers and I hope you will try it too! I hope you enjoy and impress all of your friends and family this holiday season. Talk to y’all next week. Love you, bye.
